SVW 2014 institution spotlight - University of Southampton

Posted on 16 Jan 2014

Southampton Hub committee members and other student volunteers are working with SUSU to bring SVW 2014 to Southampton.

Plans for the week include a Good Deed Day and a number of community-based volunteering projects centred around a ‘One Hour’ Campaign, including an afternoon tea dance for elderly members of the community. They also hope to host a Challenge Series event focusing on homelessness in Southampton, followed by a sleep-out to raise funds and awareness of the issue. A celebration event in the Students’ Union will bring it all together at the end of the week!

Throughout the week there will be a whiteboard campaign and society-led projects to show the scope and diversity of volunteering opportunities at Southampton. The local SVW team are hoping that these events will showcase how students can (and already do!) make a positive impact in the local community, and how volunteering can be a part of university life. Hopefully the week will encourage new volunteers to get involved during and beyond SWV 2014 at Southampton.
