SVW at Lincoln Students' Union

Posted on 15 Feb 2016

For SVW 2016 Lincoln Students’ Union are collaborating with our Careers & Employability Team to deliver a week of events and activities geared towards gaining and improving skills, getting inspired, getting recognition and getting experience – all of which will help when applying for jobs and creating a CV. We know that students care deeply about employability and skills-development so we want to show them how volunteering can help.

Volunteering is hugely important to us here at Lincoln; as well as providing students with skills and experience it also helps us to contribute to our local community. We find that students have a strong sense of social responsibility and love an opportunity to give something back. As part of SVW we will be doing a ‘trolley dash’ to take shopping trollies back to the local supermarket after a desperate plea from a resident! Students will also be reading to children at a local school.

We have given our week a safari theme with an emphasis on exploring, facing fears and trying new things – there’s a ‘Big 5’ safari trail as well as an opportunity to win prizes. We are really excited about SVW this year and we are anticipating a really good response from students.

Universities and Students’ Unions in the midlands area are sharing ideas and some are teaming up. We plan to share our successes and have already collaborated on a ‘SVW Midlands’ promotional video. We will be using the hastag #SVWMidlands to see what everyone is up to throughout the week
